Clerk to the Governing Body – Sheffield Clerking Service
Co Chair of the Governing Board – Geoff Leyland – I retired from my role as a senior adviser supporting schools in Derbyshire in July 2021. I have 38 years teaching experience including 18 years in Headship. I have also worked in HE for three years in initial teacher training. I’d like to think I bring a wealth of experience to share and support the school and governors. I have previously served as a Governor at Chesterfield College where I was the Chair of the Standards Committee. I have a keen interest in early years and I am the link governor for Year 1. As a grandad of a child in the school, I wanted to support the outstanding ethos Renishaw Primary School brings with its inclusivity and nurturing care for every single child. WARAW
Co Chair of the Governing Body – Miss Julie Meiner
I believe early education is not only crucial to a child’s later academic achievements, but more importantly it is fundamental to the development of social, emotional and other life skills. It is for this reason that I wanted to be more involved with the school and have the opportunity to help Renishaw Primary School give its pupils the best start in life.
As Co Head of a large primary school in Barnsley myself I feel that I am able to support Renishaw Primary school in reaching and maintaining the standards required whilst keeping the needs of its pupils at the heart of all we do.I became a co-opted governor in March 2016 and am responsible for Safeguarding and SEN. WARAW
Mr Brian Ridgway – I joined Renishaw School when my children were very small, as I felt at the time, and still do feel, that it’s important to support the school and it’s valuable contribution and place in the Community. I have seen many changes over the years not just in the shape of the school but in the way it’s administered with the introduction of IT and specialist teaching. We see more Renishaw Children going on to Higher Education including university than when I started.
The school itself benefits from full computerization in every classroom and a purpose built nursery and Reception, with specialist staff who get the children off to a flying start. This has been a team effort with Governors providing support to the head and staff . If I have been able to contribute in some small way , then volunteering all those years ago has been worth it .
Simon Fuller – Headteacher – It is my absolute please and indeed privilege to not only be Headteacher her at Renishaw Primary school, but also to be on the board of governors. A privilege that I never take for granted as I work with such an immense team of staff, governors a parents and most importantly children.
As a governor, it requires me to keep the whole of the Governing Body updated as to the status and direction of the school, and to answer challenging questions. Challenging from the point of view that we need to do everything that we can to constantly make the school as good as it can possibly be. To get the very best that from this team and this community has to offer is an immense and privileged responsibility. Enjoyable for from the fact I get to work with this exciting young team of staff , brilliant children and immensely supportive community.
I know that both roles run along the common thread of ensuring that I do everything possible to improve the lives of the children and families within school, and that all decisions are child-centered to enrich the lives of this community and to ensure that….We’re All Renishaw Aren’t We? …WARAW
Samantha Cooke – Staff Governor-
Hi, I’m Sam Cooke, the SENCO at Renishaw Primary School and I represent the school staff at Governors’ meetings.
This September will be my fifth year of teaching at Renishaw and third year as SENCO. In a previous life, I was an SEN teaching assistant so to now fulfill the role of SENCO is a huge privilege. I am committed not only to representing the staff at meetings, but also to share my passion of inclusion with others and make sure as a school, we are doing everything in our power to allow everyone to reach their full potential.
Terri Homyard – Parent Governor. As a former pupil of Renishaw Primary School, I loved that my own children went here and I feel very lucky for the opportunity to serve on the Governing Board. I am passionate about ensuring that the school should continue to be a safe, fun and stimulating learning and caring environment. My hope is that all of our staff and pupils will look back at their time here and have wonderful memories. Our school, children, staff and community are something to be proud of and I love being part of that. WARAW
