There is no automatic right for students to be granted authorised absences during term time. In September 2013 the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make it clear that Head Teachers should not grant approval for any leave of absence during term-time, including holidays, unless there are exceptional Circumstances.
Any requests should be on an official School absence request form 2016 and handed into the school office for consideration prior to any holiday/leave arrangements being made. You may be issued with a Penalty Notice should leave be taken which is not authorised.
Parents and carers need to be aware that absences from school can have a detrimental effect on student’s progress and achievement in examinations.
Please also see our Attendance Policy 2018 and information on the impact of absence during term time and the affect that it has on a child’s development.
As of September 2015 the threshold for children being classed as being “Persistently Absent” will be 90%. Any child falling below this threshold will be referred to the Multi Agency Team and in particularly the Education Welfare Officer.
The school has set a target of 97% for the school year. The school celebrates children’s attendance between 97% – 100%.
In 2014 2015 11 children achieved 100% attendance for the school year with 50% of children reaching the school target of 97% or better.
