Renishaw Primary School

Our Governors

Welcome to the Governors' page

The Governing Body consists of local volunteers who have an active interest in the school.

As Governors we work as a team to support, challenge and provide a strategic leadership to our school. Governors play a vital role in moving the school forward and ensuring every child gets the best possible education.

We do this through Governing Body meetings six times a year and regular visits into school to look at different aspects of the curriculum. We also offer support for school events.

Each Governor links in with a Class Teacher in a “buddy” system to gain a good understanding of that year group.  In addition to this we have Governors with specific lead areas, looking at topics such as Safeguarding, SEN, finance and data.

Our Governing body is made up of 10 Governors in the following areas:

  • Headteacher
  • 1 Staff Governor - elected by school staff
  • 2 Parent Governors -elected by parents
  • 1 Local Authority Governor -nominated by the Local Authority
  • 6 Co-opted Governors -invited by the Governing Body as and when required.

The main functions of the Governing Body are to:
- agree the aims and objectives of the school
- agree the policies to help achieve those aims and objectives and to ensure that they are adhered to.
- monitor and evaluate progress
- support and challenge the Head Teacher and the other school leaders in relation to the progress and attainment
- manage the school’s use of finance and other resources
- ensure that the school is a safe place to work and learn

For more details of who our Governors are and their roles, please see the table below and the who’s who section of this website.

We hope that you have found this page helpful and informative. If you have any questions or would like to contact the Governing Body please do so via the school office.

Governor Profiles

Brian Ridgway - Chair of Governors - Co - Opted.

I have been volunteering at Renishaw Primary school since my children started there over 30 years ago. Having retired some time ago I was privileged to be invited back last year.
I believe the quality of any future in local community is dependent on the investment in their children today . Every child deserves the opportunity to live their best life and their education is key to that . The school offers a broad education through a quality curriculum, delivered by dedicated caring staff, who feel proud and privileged to support the children.

Rebecca Williams - SEND / Safeguarding Governor - Parent elected.

I live in Renishaw and both my children attend Renishaw Primary school, and have done since nursery. I chose to be a school governor to help to support the school and give something back to the community. I am also in the PTFA to help to raise funds for the extra things the school needs.

I was a college lecturer for 12 years, before moving to become an assessor in schools, mainly working in assessment of teachers and teaching assistant, working in a range of schools supporting their development. I currently have the role of SEND Governor, as I am very passionate about ensuring that all children have access to equal education and opportunities, working with the SENCO to introduce new ideas. I have a robust understanding of the primary curriculum and think this helps within my role in school.

Idah Nyoni - Mental Health and Wellbeing - Co - Opted

I have 2 children at Renishaw and a full-time working mum. Throughout the children’s time in education in several schools I have gained valuable insight and knowledge of the systems.  As a parent I felt it important to be involved within the school’s governance to ensure the best interests of all students are being met. We live in challenging times and ensuring that children have the best start to their educational life is moreimportant than ever. My desire is to use my skills in Mentalhealth to ensure children  and staff wellbeing. I am grateful for the opportunity to join the governing body at Renishaw and to be able to support all the amazing work that they do
