This term, our topic is: Extreme Earth.
We will be learning all about different natural disasters that can occur in the world, what causes them and the effects they can have on the lives of people who experience them. We will be creating non – chronological reports based on our knowledge of volcanoes and writing recounts based on the experiences of those who live through these events.
On the first day back after the half term, we learnt all about volcanoes including their parts, how they are formed and what happens when they erupt. The children then worked in groups to create their own volcano, which we will be erupting at the end of the half term.
In Science we have been learning about rocks and soils. In our first lesson, we used different questions to make observations about their appearances and features.
We learnt about the three different types of rock: Sedimentary, Metamorphic and Igneous. We looked at the rock cycle and then we used Starburst sweets to represent the different processes that create the different types of rock. Here we are in action:
